Ayesha Takia shines in Dor

Actors often complain about want of good roles coming their way. But that’s invariably towards the end of their careers, or when they are down and to a large extent, out too.

And for the few who do steer towards serious cinema to satisfy their creative urge, barring Tabu and Aishwarya Rai, it is a calculated move to bask in the limited share of their glory. Karisma Kapoor in the recent past is one such example.

It thus comes as a pleasant surprise to see a two-year old in the industry, Ayesha Takia, (with about seven films to her credit) try her hand at a new genre in the Nagesh Kukunoor directed Dor. At a time, when she is not even considered a bankable star to sell an art house product, her decision to act in a de-glamorised set up is laudatory.

Ayesha Takia is one gutsy girl. She lives up to what she speaks. And now she has done what most top league heroines would not dare to do.

Ayesha has just refused to do a movie with her ‘Rakhi’ brother Nagesh Kukunoor with whom she has just done Dor. The reason being, a kiss was involved in the film.

Actress Ayesha Takia and filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor bonded real well during the making of Dor .

He may have been very strict with her and the other actors on the sets of ‘Dor’, but Nagesh did develop a special fondness for Ayesha Takia while making the film.

Dor

The two women brought closer by ‘Dor’ are Zeenat [Gul Panag] and Meera [Ayesha Takia]. Poles apart in their upbringing, thoughts and the way they looked at life, destiny plays a hand in making their future interdependent!

Zeenat comes from Himachal Pradesh, Meera is from Rajasthan. Zeenat has a mind of her own; Meera has been taught to live as per the rules set by her family. Zeenat doesn’t shy away from living alone, Zeenat lives in a conservative Rajasthani Rajput family. Zeenat marries the person she loves; Zeenat continues to live in the same setting inspite of her love being no more. Zeenat decides to fight for a better life ahead; Meera surrenders to her fate and is content with what life has to offer to her.

But soon the two would be crossing paths and their lives won’t be the same again. An incident in the lives of both the women makes Zeenat travel from Himachal to Rajasthan in search of Meera. Continue reading ‘Dor’
